Visual Language Line Task - Classic Horror Movies

For my twenty drawings in response to the use of line I chose to study the hammer movie monster "the creature from the black lagoon". I saw a lot of potential in the design of this monster in particular as it's quite amphibious looking with a lot of smooth edges and curves incorporated into its face. I tried to break down my normal meticulous strategy of drawing in this task to try a new type of mark making with gouache, in an attempt to better replicate the loose bendy nature of the monster as I see it. I think that stepping outside of my comfort zone with this task has allowed me to gain greater confidence with liquid media rather than exclusively limiting myself to pens and pencils. As I'm used to doing drawings that are detailed and take a while to finish, I enjoyed these quick more expressive representational drawings and I feel they have a lot more personality than just an exact replica of the image as it already exists.
