I am happy with the final result of my typology poster as I think I've successfully produced what I set out to do. I wanted to represent the characters in a comedic setting to play on the stereotype of high school yearbooks whilst also using tone and detail to replicate the intricate puppets, costumes and models that comprise a lot of these characters. I think the use of tone works well in this piece as I think it fits in with the theme of yearbooks, as traditionally those photos are in black and white, so I knew I would be restricting myself to those two colours. If I had this brief again some things I would improve would be the typeface and the composition of the characters. I feel that I spent a lot of time developing the characters but I could've put more thought into the type to make the piece more interesting. I also think that while the composition of vignettes I chose works in the way I chose, I'd like to further experiment with different ways in which to show the characters on the page. I would also like to experiment with different characters for each letter before choosing them for the final poster, as in my research I found a lot of strange and interesting designs I could have worked into this brief.

Star Wars title ideas
As my development has gone on I've decided to stay with my Star Wars idea, and I will be adapting those characters into a university styled yearbook poster. I thought that a class of these characters would be quite funny in a real world setting, and I have chosen to dress all these aliens and monsters in typical 80s American high school attire, such as football jerseys and sweater vests. In keeping with this idea, I experimented with a few ideas for university logos, most of which are Star Wars jokes that I hope someone other than me will find funny.
Transformers development continued
As the development of this idea continued I chose to branch out of more conventional designs and explore the weirder and more obscure characters such as snakelike bounty hunter Lockdown, giant city sized brute Trypticon and the five faced Quintessons. My inspiration here was those posters you see in barbershops showing all the different stock haircuts you can get, and I thought maybe these characters could choose their own helmet and style from a similar styled poster.
Transformers idea development
I love the aesthetics of this design and I really enjoy drawing in this fashion, so I'm hoping to transfer some of these skills over into my final poster. I think my knowledge of this franchise and the characters as individuals with distinct designs works to the benefit of the brief, as no two characters look the same.
Star Wars idea development
This is some of the development for my strangest star wars idea, as I feel I have the strongest connection to these characters and can make the best responses to them.
A-Z of things that piss me off
I probably won't use this list as my final idea because I'm not sure what I want to develop in poster form, the list more or less came to me spontaneously from being pissed off a good seventy percent of the time. However I suppose a lot of it is subjective so it wouldn't be that funny to the people (morons) who do love Simon cowell and Britains Got Talent.
A-Z of Non-Existent Places
My idea here is to explore making a fictional travel guide to all these places, all of which are fictional and most of which are horribly dangerous. I think this is a pretty strong idea as I've got a couple of alternative choices for each letter of the alphabet and I can probably make something funny out of a lot of the locations, as they're primarily from comics or fantasy. I also might explore the idea of Lantern worlds from DC Comics lore, as each coloured cosmic Lantern is from a different world (Green = Oa, Orange = Okaara, Red = Ryut, etc) but the monochrome requirement of the brief would restrict some ideas I have concerning that concept, so again I may save it for a more fitting opportunity.
A-Z of Transformers
I'm quite confident with the aesthetics of this idea and I want to explore it further but I'm not sure what the message of the poster would be other than some robot heads. I want to explore advancing the drawings of the characters themselves but also try to find a message or joke in this idea to present in my poster, as my main objective within this brief is to make something that's hopefully funny. But not funny because it's bad.
A-Z of Weirdest Star Wars Characters
I feel that this is probably my strongest idea as its the topic I'm probably the most familiar with. Because of this I'm more confident with the characters and I think I'm able to come up with at least one comedic response for each vignette. I have a couple of ideas on how to adapt these characters into a poster and at this point I think this is the idea I will be developing primarily.
A-Z of Gods
I enjoyed exploring this idea a lot as I find ancient deities fascinating as they are so wildly extreme and in depth (unlike today's vague boring rules don't do anything until you're baptised or married God) and they have rich colourful back stories. Also a lot of the stories of these gods are metaphorical and convey some sort of deeper meaning or some greater story to tell. I'm having some difficulty finding gods for the more obscure letters like x and q which is why I might not be able to progress with this idea, but at the moment I'm grappling with the concept of illustrating Norse vs Greek gods, as a lot of them parallel each other in potentially comedic ways.
A-Z of DC Characters
Similarly to my marvel idea, I am familiar with all these characters and have a fondness for them in the context of comics, but again aren't sure how I'll make them work in the way I want in this brief. I feel that I can bring out stronger ideas with these characters and the themes they all represent in a more fitting brief.
A-Z of Marvel characters
Whilst I have an (unhealthy) advanced familiarity with these characters and the themes and ideas they present I'm struggling to find a overriding theme for my poster with this idea, outside of a generic superheroes fighting poster. As I want to make something a little different and more comedic I'm not sure this is the best idea to move forward with. I'll save my comic nerd-dom for a more fitting brief I think.
A-Z of Useless superpowers/people
I think that this is one of my stronger ideas as it combines both my knowledge of comic characters and my attempts to create funny responses to the ideas in this brief. (PS "Arm Fall Off Boy" is completely real I have not invented him. He takes his own arm off and beats criminals with it. Why not just punch them. Or give them a stern warning.)
A-Z of the worst films ever made
This was the first idea I put down on paper as as soon as we got the brief I realised I've wasted a huge portion of my life suffering through trash movies both by accident and knowingly. I managed to find an example for each letter that I'm happy with and feel like there's enough comedic potential to develop the list into a poster, but I'm unsure how to show it other than perhaps a Hollywood styled movie poster but for all these awful movies, or maybe a casting call for famous and iconic actors to star in these horrid films.

Observational Drawing
I feel this is one of my better observations as it is a method I'm used to working with, pencil with small intricate details to accentuate the drawing. I am happy with the scale of the drawing but I feel I could have improved it by making it larger to fill a page, then I could have applied a greater level of detail to the translation what I was looking at. Overall I enjoyed observational drawing as it was much more interesting than I initially assumed it would be as we went to places with unconventional architecture and objects, and the preset aims of the task helped me identify specific ideas and inspirations in my surroundings when observing them.
Observational Drawing
These are studies of a crocodile and walrus skull. I chose to study these as they were two of the strangest artefacts in the discovery centre and I wanted to test myself by drawing something unconventional rather than drawing a human or primate skull with a more familiar and simplistic shape. I enjoyed the experience of being able to observe objects like this and being able to draw them was even better. I'd like to have more time to develop these drawings as I felt I was rushing to get as much drawing done in the discovery centre as possible in the time we had.
Observational Drawing
This is a fineliner study of an Indian elephant skull, I wanted to capture the rough and bumpy nature of the object without spending too long worrying about fine details with a pencil. I really enjoyed observational drawing in the discovery centre as it gave us a huge array of unique and interesting objects to translate. I also thought as I was looking at the skull that I could understand why ancient cultures may have found skulls like this and theorise that they came from mythical creatures like Cyclops. I hope to go back to the discovery centre for further research as the objects themselves started to give me interesting ideas in just the hour we were in there.
Observational Drawings
Although these are quite simple fast drawings I like how they capture movement, as I was trying to draw a spider as it crawled across my hand. I tried to focus less on detail in these drawings and just try to translate what I was seeing and I think the simplicity of them works towards this goal.
